How to Pick Your Guide
If I Were Booking a Guide on the Kenai, Here's What I'd Ask
I know what goes into running a legitimate guiding operation on the Kenai. I also know what corners get cut. If I were a visitor looking for a fishing guide kenai river, I'd come in with five questions and I wouldn't book until I had honest answers to all of them.
The 5 Questions I'd Ask Any Kenai Guide
- "What's your USCG license number?" — Any operator running a power boat for hire needs a USCG captain's license. Ask for it. Legitimate guides give it immediately.
- "What boat are we fishing from?" — The river dictates the craft. Drift boats for the upper, jet sleds for the lower. A guide running the wrong boat for the section doesn't know the river.
- "Is all gear included or are there add-on fees?" — Hidden charges for tackle, bait, or processing are a red flag.
- "What happens if there's an emergency closure?" — Good guides have a contingency plan and communicate proactively. Bad ones ghost you.
- "Can I talk to a past client?" — References matter. If they can't produce one, there's a reason.
We answer all five confidently. Our license, our boats, our all-inclusive pricing, our communication record, and our client testimonials are all open books. That's the standard we hold ourselves to.
