Halibut Charter Alaska
Alaska Halibut Charter: What I Tell My Clients
A halibut charter in Alaska is one of the most requested add-ons from my Kenai River clients. And I get it — if you're driving 3,000 miles to fish Alaska, you want the full menu. Halibut. Salmon. Both.
I coordinate halibut charters through trusted partners in Homer, about 75 miles south of Soldotna on Kachemak Bay. These are full-day deep-water charters targeting Pacific halibut in Cook Inlet. The fish run 30–200+ lbs and you'll be fighting them on heavy gear over structure in 150–400 feet of water.
Homer Halibut Charter Basics

- Best months: May through September — peak action July–August
- Typical fish size: 20–80 lbs chickens; trophy fish 100–300+ lbs possible
The Salmon + Halibut Combo
The most popular multi-day package I put together: Day 1 on the Kenai for salmon, overnight in Soldotna, Day 2 driving to Homer for halibut. You leave Alaska with a cooler full of both. It's the dream trip — and we've run it hundreds of times.
