Boating Rules 2027

Kenai River Boat & Motor Regulations for 2027

State park rules restrict vessel sizes and outboard horsepower on the Kenai River. Review the boating rules to remain fully compliant in 2027.

50 HP Outboard Cap

Upstream of the Warren Ames Bridge, outboards are capped at 50 HP (propshaft rated). Engines must be 4-stroke or direct fuel injection (DFI).

Non-Motorized Drift Zones

The Upper Kenai River and sections of the Middle Kenai are restricted to drift boats, rafts, and kayaks. Outboards are prohibited.

Drift Mondays Rules

Mondays from May 1 through July 31 are designated 'drift-only' on the entire river. Fishing from a boat with a motor on board is illegal.
